In Memory of Teresa Lynn (Hochstetler) Byler

1975-2006

Teresa Lynn (Hochstetler) Byler was born January 6, 1975, to Oris and Beverly Hochstetler. Growing up, Teresa was very active in school activities. These included basketball, softball, volleyball, and band just to name a few. She lived life to the fullest and showed her wild side by parachuting and bungee jumping.  Anyone who knew Teresa would agree that she loved people as much as she loved life. This was proven in the way she exemplified the Great Commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” She showed this love in her chosen profession of nursing. She spent the majority of her nursing career in Oncology administering chemotherapy to cancer patients. This job was a perfect fit for her, as she brought smiles to the faces of her patients every day. Teresa’s coworkers and patients could always count on her to brighten their days with a funny story that only Teresa had a way of telling. Her stories came from being a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved helping and giving to others in whatever ways she could. Another way in which she proudly served others was through involvement in her church community. There, she played the keyboard during worship, led the children in singing during children’s church, and taught a young adults’ Sunday school class.

Teresa’s life was short but very full at the young age of 31. The number of lives that she touched attests to this fact. Calling hours were extended almost four hours, as nearly 1,200 people came to celebrate Teresa’s life. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, co-workers, patients and those on whose lives she had an impact--everyone who knew her. Although her Heavenly Father called Teresa home on February 5, 2006, her legacy will continue to live on.

Teresa’s family requests that all donations in her memory be made to The Angels On Track Foundation. Their hope is that one day there will be lights at the tracks on Zuercher road in Wayne County, and other bad crossings, so that other lives may be saved.
