On September 21, 2002, members of railroad safety groups, families/friends of victims of preventable railroad tragedies and concerned citizens, will host simultaneous “Rally at the Rails” in states across the country.

Ohio’s version of National Rally at the Rails Day will be held in Medina County. County Commissioners recently passed a Resolution establishing a county task force to identify all dangerous crossings. The county will join the efforts of The Angels on Track Foundation to fund upgrades at unprotected railroad crossings. Approximately 43% of Ohio’s public railroad crossings are marked with only crossbucks. Medina County led the state in the number of accidents.

Speakers at the rally will include - Ohio State Senator Scott Oelslager; Medina County Commissioner, Patricia Geissman; and Dr. Harvey A. Levine, Director, Crossing to Safety™. A memorial banner and The Railroad Victims’ Memorial Quilt will be displayed. Organizers will honor the memory of all those killed in railroad tragedies from across the country at the end of the rally. Free handouts and information/statistics on railroad safety will be available.

Organizers want to make the statement “IT SHOULDN’T TAKE A TRAGEDY TO GET GATES AND LIGHTS INSTALLED AT DANGEROUS UNPROTECTED RAILROAD CROSSINGS”…
